WGL Energy Services Tuesday announced the Department of General Services has signed a three-year contract for Green-e® Energy certified wind renewable energy certificates (RECs) sourced from wind farms throughout the United States.
Demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability, the Department of General Services will match almost 400,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of its electricity load with national wind RECs under the contract which ends in 2018.
This is equivalent to taking more than 55,000 cars off the road for one year. DGS will be increasing the match of RECs to the electricity usage of its executive agencies from 10 percent to 30 percent over this 3-year contract.

In addition to significant wind RECs supply, WGL Energy is active in other areas of renewable energy with more than 170 megawatts (MW) of distributed generation under contract in markets across the United States.
